2016 Concerts

Weird Al Yankovic

What's not to like about a Weird Al concert? The music is great, the whole show is hysterical, and it's the one concert I go to where being a bit geeky is mainstream. I've seen Weird Al a handful of times now and never been disappointed, and I hope I'll get to see him again sometime.

The guys in this band all sort of look like they've lived a hard life and are now on borrowed time, but despite they can REALLY play. They subscribe to the Libertarian "pro pot" platform, and that is the subject for a few of their songs. They are best known for "Hot Rod Lincoln." For me, the real reason to see them is the great keyboards. My only complaint about this particular concert was we arrived a little late and ended up sitting way too close to one of the speakers which made everything way too loud and slightly distorted.

A four piece (percussion, acoustic rhythm guitar & 2 fiddles) playing "high energy Celtic music" - even though none of them were Irish. This band was good and sounded great (the venue is a relatively small room in an old Victorian house that can probably pack in almost 100 people). Being able to drive 15 minutes down the road to see a show of this caliber is a real treat. I would've liked to have seen them add a bass player or a keyboardist to round out the sound, but I'd drive down to Tuckerton to see them again (with or without the 5th musician) if I had the chance.
